Books of Amber's Debut-a-Thon: TBR

Wheee! It's almost time for the Debut-a-thon that starts on Thursday and I must say, I'm very excited. No idea what I'm talking about? Check out my sign-up post or Books of Amber!

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered some debuts so I would actually have something to read during this readathon, and this is what I'll be reading :)

If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch
Pivot Point by Kasie West
ACID by Emma Pass
Altered by Jennifer Rush

I selected four, since I plan to read a total of four books. I'm sure I won't be able to read all of them but I'm going to give it my best shot and hopefully I'll enjoy all of them. I'm just hoping I won't be a sobbing mess after one of these books because curling up into foetal position isn't exactly ideal for reading.

Top Ten Tuesday -- Books Featuring Travel In Some Way

After seeing Top Ten Tuesday around for so long, and ignoring the urge to participate, I decided to give in and indulge. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature by The Broke and the Bookish where you post a list of books in the selected theme for that edition. This week: books featuring travel in some way. I can make a good list with that!

Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Travelling through space to another planet must be the first one mentioned in this post. I loved this book -- the mystery and the build-up from everything that happened while in a spaceship was awesome. I have yet to read the next books, but I adored this book.

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
Roadtrip alert!! I loved this book and it took me by surprise a bit because I thought Matson would never be able to write anything close to as good as Second Chance Summer (if you haven't read it, why the heck not?) but she delivered and I adored this book. The illustrations made this book even better and I loved it. 

Blood Red Road by Moira Young
After her brother disappears, Saba travels outside of her Silverlake home and across country to find him. This book is basically made of Saba travelling, though it has some awesome other scenes as well. It's gruelling and awesomely (is this a word? If not, it should be) written and I practically inhaled it.

The Fault in our Stars by John Green
I'm pretty sure this book doesn't need an explanation. However sad this was, I loved how John managed to weave this little trip of happiness and hope into the novel and tie it in perfectly. While the trip takes place in the town I lived in for 20 years (darn I'm old), I was still filled with wonder. I take my hat off for you, Sir Green. 

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
I'm the biggest Rick Riordan fan and I looooove the quest(s) in his books. The Son of Neptune is my favourite book in the Heroes of Olympus series so far, so that's why I picked this one. Travelling with Rick and Percy never gets old or boring and I cannot wait to read the next part of the journey!

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
I cannot tell you about the travel in this book (series) if you haven't read the book(s) yet, but it's awesome. It's intense and exciting and heartbreaking and exhilarating and nerve wrecking and so GOOD! If you decide to read this one, you may want to plan a trip to the book store to pick up the sequel as well (see what I did there?). You'll need it.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
This is another one of those books that just sucks you in and has you turn the pages so fast you almost rip them. I loved the parts where we were exploring the land and everything around it. Top that with a cast of great characters and good writing and you've got yourself this book.

Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh
Several travel things in this book that I can't talk to you about since it's a sequel.. But I felt like the first book wasn't entirely fitting to put in this post. Enshadowed is quite dark and foggy and I loved that. 

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Ahhh Anna and the French Kiss. What is there to say about this book? I loved it. It's quirky and fun but also honest and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. While I'm not sure if this counts as travel, it takes place in Paris so I'm making it count.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Okay so this one needs a little bit of an explanation, methinks. Junior is a bit of a loner in his Indian reservation, where he lives, and he decides to take the gamble and go to the all-white high school a couple of miles away. While it doesn't technically involve any travel than Junior walking the entire way home or being picked up in a car, Junior somewhat travelled into a different world. This book came to mind when I thought about books that feature travelling, and I think this does qualify, although it's a bit of a detour. I'd definitely recommend it.
