Get Read-y for 2012! Sign up & Introduction

If you are like me, you have accumulated a lot of books in the first 11 months of 2011. You may even have a pile of books to review that are screaming for your attention, when you’re already swimming in titles to read. In other words: Feel like your to-be-read pile is getting out of hand? Feel like you need to make room for new books in 2012? Join me and Get Read-y for 2012!

What is “Get read-y for 2012”?

It’s simple: December is the last month of 2011 and we are using it to read away our TBR pile. If you are like me, you have a big pile of books you need to read, and a lot of 2012 books on your wishlist. The Plan is to get all other (review) books out of the way so there’s room for new titles.

We’re working with an ‘honor system’ here, so nobody will shout at you/slap you/steal your chocolate if you don’t make your goal. But we will of course award you with cyber glitter and narwhals when you make it!

There will be a so called check-in every week on Wednesday, so you can tell us how you are coming along with the reading. At the end of December there will be a final check-in where you can tell if you made it to your goal and if you feel like you’ve made a dint in that to-read pile.

How do I join?

Want to join me in getting Read-y? It’s simple: just enter your name in the Mr Linky at the bottom of the post and if you want, leave me a comment telling me how many books or what specific titles you want to read in December. You don’t have to list the books you want to read – just fill it in however you want! The point is to readΒ so that’s the main priority. It’s not about who read the most books – it’s about getting reading done so we can focus on the new year!

What do I gain from joining?

Besides a nice small stack of books left in your TBR, I will be giving away oneΒ January release to one of the participants in Get Read-y, to motivate you to get the reading done!(this is slightly counter productive, I know).

Get read-y lasts for the full month of December, meaning you have from December 1st til December 31st to get your reading done. Remember that you need to be a participant to be able to win the January release prize!

Feel free to grab the button and spread the word – the more the merrier! (Please save the button on your computer and upload it yourself!)

Enough talking! feel like joining? Enter your name in the Mr Linky now, leave me a comment (feel free to post a list of what you plan to read!), and get reading! We can do this!

  1. Well, I’ve entered my details into the Linky but nothing’s come up… Am I there? There’s no way I’m going to tackle everything I should have tackled by Dec 31 – partially thanks to a sudden panicky flurry of review books – but I’ll hopefully make a good dent in the heap.

My first priority will be my Books to be Read Challenge. I’ve got two books on the go for that (‘Atonement’ and ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’) and two still to read (‘A Fish Caught in Time’ and ‘A Moveable Feast’). After that I’ll be attacking my library books and YA review pile. Wish me luck, motivation, and a hefty dose of reading mojo! πŸ™‚

  2. I don’t put a number on what i will read, because it’s is also depends on my mood and how much i have to work for uni. I have around 50 books though, not more ^^ Hope i can get to read most of them and convince my parents to let me buy more πŸ˜›

First, go the ones for scheduled reviews on December ^^

  5. cool, I just posted my November wrap up today, with a must-read-in-December list.
With Proust and Reamde, it’s quite a challenge; not sure I will not quit Reamde, so far I have not been able to read this author’s books, but I really want to try once more!

  6. I’m in! I have a huge stack of books that I would love to read this month. If I can read at least 10 books from my ARC pile, I’m happy. Good luck to everyone.

  7. I’ve decided to join your challenge! πŸ˜€ I’ve made myself a schedule and I’m hoping to read 11 books (it’s a HUGE goal – and what with Christmas I doubt I’ll read everything but I’m going to try! ;P ) by the end of the year! I’ll still have an enormous pile of books to read and will probably get some more for Christmas but fingers crossed I can make a sizeable dent in my TBR πŸ˜‰ Thanks for hosting Daph!

  8. I DO NOT WANT TO GET STRESSED ABOUT READING ANY MORE but as Leeswammes convinced me that this challenge is not about putting the pressure on but getting organised I decided I may join in! πŸ™‚ Will try to post about the books I want to finish in December in a Sunday Salon tomorrow — I sort of already mentioned them in my previous TSS. πŸ˜‰

BTW I see that you’re just one book from your 2011 +11 challenge… Way to go! Are you also a BOTNS listener?

  9. What a great idea πŸ™‚ I put together a list of books I really wanted to read before the end of the year as well, and I love how just the act of putting a pile together and making a commitment towards it has already put me one book down and halfway through another! Anyway, good luck to you and everyone else doing this!

  10. I’m up! I’ve got about 20 books that need to be read by Dec 31 if I’m going to fulfill all my challenges…we’ll see if I can do it.

  11. My goal is to, at the end of December, have no library books out waiting to be read, no NetGalleys waiting to be read or reviewed, and to have read a couple of specific books I’d like to get out of the way, including Star Trek and Philosophy, because I’ve been reading it on and off for months and I hate it when books cross over 2 different years! It wreaks havoc on my statistics. πŸ™‚ Basically, I’d like a clean slate for the new year!

  12. This is great! Joining a wee bit late, making my list (er, checking it twice?) and a shelf with all the books I’d like to get read before Dec. 31.

    Thanks for organizing this!
