I didn't officially get books in my mailbox, but I paid the English Bookstore another visit and since they're cheaper than Bookdepository or Amazon, I picked up a couple of books again!
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I've heard mixed things about this book, most people I know either love it or hate it. Most people seem to love it though, and since everyone around me appeared to have read it, I thought I'd pick up a copy. From Bookdepository: Mariam is only fifteen when she is sent to Kabul to marry Rasheed. Nearly two decades later, a friendship grows between Mariam and a local teenager, Laila, as strong as the ties between mother and daughter. When the Taliban take over, life becomes a desperate struggle against starvation, brutality and fear. Yet love can move a person to act in unexpected ways, and lead them to overcome the most daunting obstacles with a startling heroism.
Picture Perfect by Jodie Picoult. The story reminds me a bit of Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella, but only for a bit. The start is the same: A woman who lost her memory and the memories come back slowly and the gorgeous husband isn't all that nice. I'm looking forward to reading this! From Bookdepository: A woman wakes to find herself in a graveyard, hurt and bleeding, her memory wiped clean. She doesn't know what she's doing there - or even who she is.She is rescued by a police officer, himself a newcomer to Los Angeles. After days of waiting, she is taken by complete surprise when she is finally identified by Alex Rivers, Hollywood's biggest movie star - and her husband.Cassie is dazzled and bewildered by the fairytale in which she suddenly finds herself. But everything is not quite right, and there is something dark and disturbing behind this glamorous facade. It is only as her memory gradually returns that her picture perfect life comes crumbling down, and Cassie is faced with choices she never dreamed she would have to make.
The Gift by Cecelia Ahern. I have more books by Cecelia and I loved the ones I've read so far. The cover is so so so pretty! It was just screaming at me 'buy me! BUY ME!! I LOOK LIKE A PRESENT!' so of course, I obeyed and bought it. This is one of the prettiest covers I've seen lately, the ribbon looks so threedimensional.. I love it! The story plays around Christmas so I thought it would be a great read for the week before Christmas. From Bookdepository: Step into the magical world of Cecelia Ahern in this heartwarming bestseller! If you could wish for one gift this Christmas, what would it be? Everyday Lou Suffern battled with the clock. He always had two places to be at the same time. He always had two things to do at once. When asleep he dreamed. In between dreams, he ran through the events of the day while making plans for the next. When at home with his wife and family, his mind was always someplace else. On his way into work one early winter morning, Lou meets Gabe, a homeless man sitting outside the office building. Intrigued by him and on discovering that he could also be very useful to have around, Lou gets Gabe a job in the post room. But soon Lou begins to regret helping Gabe. His very presence unsettles Lou and how does Gabe appear to be in two places at the same time? As Christmas draws closer, Lou starts to understand the value of time. He sees what is truly important in life yet at the same time he learns the harshest lesson of all. This is a story about people who not unlike parcels, hide secrets. They cover themselves in layers until the right person unwraps them and discovers what's inside. Sometimes you have to be unravelled in order to find out who you really are. For Lou Suffern, that took time.
I Heart Hollywood by Lindsey Kelk. I've read and reviewed I Heart New York last week and I loved it, so I decided to pick up the other two books from that series, too. I Heart Paris by Lindsey Kelk. The reason I bought this one, is the same reason that I bought I Heart Hollywood and I can't wait to read them both. From Bookdepository: Angela is in the City of Love -- but her own lovelife is heading for trouble! Angela Clark is a British girl living the life dreams are made of in fabulous New York.
